Foxton Wins After Fifty Years

Well this is an item a long time in the coming.

The Foxton Chamberlain Shield combination finally cracked the hoodoo by winning the overall teams competition in the regional Manawatu Golf Association sanctioned competition.

This according to MWGA reporting is the first time for Foxton as Team Champion of Champions or the Chamberlain Shield winners.

Some have won individual titles but not the team event. Well done!

Junior Tatana did enough in the Senior Division combining with Khalil Peta and the 'solid' Paul Hansen who really took it to the course and secured individual honours in the Intermediate and Junior Divisions respectively to bolster the overall result and win convincingly.

Tom Ratima obviously pulled out with other commitments which allowed Khalil to play as replacement and he duly obliged prevailing in the Intermediates by one shot.

The individual Champion of Champions went to Rhys Harold of PNGC.

That said, I attended the Manawatu B Grade Open Tournament at Hokowhitu on the same day and ended up with a nice prize but not the win I was competing for at the end of 27 holes on a nicely manicured layout.

This competition looks to be gaining in popularity with a capacity field and sponsorship for the next couple of seasons. The Top Prize going to a Manawatu Club member winning a nice prize of four rounds at Cape Kidnappers with cart and accomodation as well a dozen Pro VI's hmm.. nice indeed.

Yellow Tee Challenge

Things are set for the annual Foxton Golf Club Yellow Tee Challenge. The layout will be well known to Female members but unfamiliar to many Male members which should make the event a great day out for participants .

There will be a major announcement on the day, so we look forward to seeing as many members as possible attending.

Hope to see one and all at Foxton on 7 February 2015. Click on the image to enlarge details.

June Tournaments

Feilding Golf Club are promoting the annual 54 hole Matchplay Tournament from 31 May 2014 to 1 June 2014.

Also the Levin Golf Club have an aggregate stableford competition over  the same weekend and mixed foursomes. For more details refer to the brochures posted on the Manawatu Golf Association website click here..

An outstanding Mens and Mixed Foursomes Tournament is the Canada Day Tournament at Palmerston North Golf Club with over $6,000 in prizes to be allocated on 26 June 2014. This tournament is popular and your entry should be made as soon as possible.

Update 7/14 The Canada Tournament was a great success for the PN Golf Club and well organised by Stephen Wood local Professional. There was virtually 200 players involved with great sponsorship from in particular Golf Distributors. The winning Nett total was 62 with a sleeve of Golf Balls for each player for a birdie two, thankfully Foxton members didnot come away without a prize in this category and a good raffle was scored by Barry Peta. The Golf Club really laid on the hospitality including pre-play pancakes ans syrup. Drinks and sausage sizzle at Hole Ten tee. The occasion was enjoyed by all those able to attend and complemented by great weather.
